“Take Me Out to the Ballgame”

All students are invited on May 24th from 12:15-5:00pm to go with us to the Potomac Nationals Game. Busses will leave at 12:15pm (immediately following the third service) and will return after the game around 5:00pm. Cost for this event is $10.00 for ticket and transportation plus any spending money you might need. We only have a limited number of ticket so sign-up now in the church office, at the Student Information Table, or at the Elevate Service.

Student Ministry Pancake Supper

May 31st from 5:00-6:30pm in the FLC. All proceeds benefit the Honduras 2009 Mission Team. Tickets: $5.00 per person or $20 per family. You can purchase tickets in the church office, at the Student Information Table, from a Honduras Team Member, or at the door.

As Zac mentioned last night at Elevate, we as a Student Ministry have a unique opportunity to serve the adult congregation this coming Friday February 27 and Saturday February 28. There is a banquet dinner for the “Greater Things” campaign Friday evening and a Legacy Luncheon on Saturday; the Student ministry has volunteered to serve at both of these events. Many students signed up to serve last night in their life groups but we are still in need of help. If you have not yet volunteered, it’s not too late contact Anita Howard (ahoward@mtararat.org) or Erin Sims (esims@mtararat.org) so we can have an accurate count.

If you plan on serving on Friday night please arrive no later than 5:30 p.m. in the FLC wearing a white collared shirt, dark slacks and closed toe shoes. If you are serving on Saturday please arrive no later than 11:00 a.m. in the FLC, uniform the same as Friday night.

Elevation Weekend '09

Sign-ups have begun for “Stripped Away” Elevation Weekend 2009. Elevation is an exciting weekend experience for middle and high school students. Eight to ten same gender students, grouped by age and led by college-aged adults, will stay in the homes of church volunteers from Friday night through Sunday morning. Students will experience large and small group sessions, incredible music by Addison Road, creative teaching by Keith Smith and insightful discussions as they connect with other students from across the area. Early bird cost is $65 by February 1 or $75 after that date. Last day for registration is Sunday, February 8. Register at Elevate, online, in the church office or in the Connection Center on Sundays.

Super Bowl Party

All middle and high school students are invited to join us as we watch the Super Bowl on our big screens. Student Ministry will provide pizza and drinks, girls bring desserts and guys bring football food. We’ll have games, break out the Wii and have special halftime entertainment. Planet Wisdom Tour '09

March 6-7, 2009

This event is open to middle school and high school students. Cost is $55 which includes event ticket, travel snack and lunch on Saturday. Speakers will include: Matt Matlock, The Skit Guys and music by Dutton. Register at Elevate, online at www.mtararat.org, in the church office or in the Connection Center on Sundays.

Revealed

There is a season in the life of the church called, The Epiphany. Epiphany means “to show”, “to make known”, or to “reveal”. As we step away from the Christmas season where we celebrate Jesus’ coming to earth, we move into this season of revealing. When Jesus was a little older, three magi from the east came to worship him and in doing so “reveal” him to the world as Lord and King. They were the first to do so…showing Jesus to be God, come to earth, to save the world.

But as we follow the story of Jesus, we see that this was not the only revelation of who he was. Over the next weeks, we are going to look at Jesus “Revealed,” Stories from the gospel s that revealed Jesus as the true son of God.

Why would we focus on this, we too have been called to reveal Jesus to the world. Maybe by reminding ourselves of who he is, we can once again embrace our mission to Reveal Him to our world.

Clayton King

We wanted to make sure everyone knew that Clayton King will be speaking at all three Sunday morning services at MABC on November 23, 2008.

Service times are 8:20am, 9:40am, and 11:00am in the FLC.

Clayton is the founder of Crossroads Worldwide and travels all over the world speaking to thousands of people every year. He has been the featured speaker at Crossroads Camp where our high school students have attended for the past several years. You don’t want to miss this Sunday! Make sure and bring someone to church with you!

LOVE FEAST pics

Here are a few pictures from this past Sunday’s Elevate. The student ministry celebrated our first ever Love Feast as a culmination of our series Wii Fit: 40 Days of Community. In the Early Church fellowship meals were a common practice, in fact Christ himself met around the table to celebrate and remember. The Love Feast in the Early Church would be a gathering of the people for a common meal and after eating they would worship through preaching. They would also celebrate and remember the death and resurrection of Jesus through communion, the Lord’s Supper. As a student ministry we enjoyed the fellowship of the feast, celebrated the life we have in Christ as we remembered the sacrifice of Christ for our sin and then had the opportunity to worship through communion.

ELEVATE: Sunday Nvoember 16

What is a LOVE FEAST?

The ‘Love Feast’ dates back to the early days of the church. People would come together to worship and celebrate, but would do so in the form of a meal.

As we wrap up the end of 40 Days of Community, we want to celebrate by having our first ever Love Feast. We are asking ALL STUDENTS to bring a SIDE DISH and/or DESSERT. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just something you like to eat that you can share with everyone! We will all bring some food, spread it out, and then eat together as part of the night this Sunday (November 16, 2008).

The Student Ministry will be providing FRIED CHICKEN as the main dish!

Help us get the word out to everyone and make sure and don’t come alone! If you want, go to our Facebook group and let everyone know what you will be bringing and maybe some suggestions of what you hope other’s bring as well. See you at Elevate!

Thanks to those who participated in Trick-or-Treat for Hunger this past weekend! Sunday we had a good contribution to help stock the food pantry here at MABC. Congratulations to the three who won a free Elevation Weekend!!!

If you were not aware today is Election Day ’08, if you are registered and have not voted you have till 7pm to do so here in VA. We need to be in prayer for our country and those who are currently and will soon be in leadership.

Sunday Spectacular

We have an incredible opportunity this weekend to show our appreciation to CHRIS CEPULIS for her many years of service to our church and student ministry. Below is the schedule for Sunday. We will be doing some special things as a part of our Sunday night gathering and are inviting you to be a part of a special church-wide opportunity. See you on Sunday night!

2:00-3:30PM – CHURCH-WIDE FAREWELL PARTY IN THE FLC
· We are inviting all students and student ministry leaders to join our church in celebrating and thanking Chris for her service. It would be a great testimony to the scope of her impact to have a good representation from Student Ministry at this gathering. There will be some light refreshments, a short program, and a chance to thanks Chris personally.

3:30-4:30PM – ULTIMATE FRISBEE IN FRONT OF ANNEX 1*
· Instead of having everyone leave and then come back for Elevate, we thought it might be a great idea to stay and play! We will be playing Ultimate Frisbee and some other games across Toluca Road in the field in front of Annex #1. (*Rain Plan: We will play in the FLC)

5:00-7:00PM – ELEVATE AND LIFE GROUPS
· We are going to take some time during our Elevate service to share our thanks to Chris specifically from student ministry. After this time, we will transition into an abbreviated teaching and Life Group time. We will gather for some cake after Life Groups!

Trick-or-Treat for Hunger

Help us stock the food pantry at Mount Ararat by Trick-or-Treating for Hunger. Looking for a reason to dress up and go out on Halloween? Here is the perfect opportunity for you! We are encouraging our students to collect non-perishables to help stock the food pantry here at the church. The student ministry will be giving away free trips for Elevation Weekend. Anyone who brings donations to Elevate on Sunday November 2 will have their name entered in to a drawing for a free Elevation Weekend!!!
